Bought brand new back in 1974 for $3500 and used as a daily driver for 12 years. After that is was used as a backup vehicle until 1994. Now my father-in-law has had this car sitting in his garage with 64000 original miles for the last 18 years. The body is really solid. It just needs a couple of patches here and there. I have a friend of mine who restores classic Chevy's working on the body. Due to the fact that it has been sitting for so long I decided to pull the 350 motor and TH350 transmission and rebuild them.
New bushings, new ball joints, new bump stops and new disc brake spindles are installed on the freshly painted control arms and some fresh paint on the coil springs. Man it is not easy to do without a motor in the car.
Last weekend I put a new fuel tank in, fuel lines, fuel pump, power steering pump, water pump. If all goes well I will be dropping the motor and trans in today.
Hell I would restore it back to orginal with the half vinyl top, and the orginal rallye rims. To many of the older stuff modified not original anymore. And this coming from a guy that can't keep anything the way it was. Looks good so far.
I am keeping it as original as I can but I am doing a few upgrades for safety and drivability. I got rid of the front drum brakes and put on disc. The original rally rims are 14" and won't fit around the disc brakes. I also took off the original cast iron 2bbl intake for a aluminum Edelbrock RPM 4bbl intake that I picked up from Scott (35085mcss). I also replaced the stock rubber body mounts for Energy Suspension Polyurethane body mount bushings.
